The Taiwan Trade Mission to South America 2008

TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) is scheduled to organize a trade delegation consisting of 63 companies to visit three important countries in South America – Colombia (Bogota), Peru (Lima) and Chile (Santiago) – from March 8th to 21st, 2008. The purpose of this delegation is to search market opportunities and strengthen a closer trade relationship with companies among these nations.

From January to November of 2007, Chile is both Taiwan's 2nd largest export market and trading partner in South America.  During this period, Taiwan exported USD 246.6 million worth of goods to Chile and enjoyed a growth rate of 4.57% compared to the same period of 2006.  In terms of population, Colombia is the 2nd largest country in South America.  With such economic potential, Colombia imported goods value from Taiwan amounted to USD 244 million with a growth rate of 19.75%, and is ranked as Taiwan's 3rd largest export market in the region.  Peru is Taiwan's 3rd largest trading partner and 6th largest export market in South America.  In the said period of 2007, with an export value of USD186 million to Peru, Taiwan enjoyed an even higher increase of 59.55%.

A trade meeting will be held in each city and carefully selected samples of Taiwan delegate companies’ most innovative, state-of-the-art products will be presented.  Through this trade mission, local businesses will have a good opportunity to meet Taiwanese delegates in person to discuss possible business cooperation.

Taiwanese firms participating in this South America trip come from a variety of industries.  Therefore, visitors will be able to see a wide range of products, including the country’s top building materials and hardware, tools, digital consumer electronics, electrical and electronic components, small electrical appliances, solar energy lighting systems, scales, POS systems, payphones, computer parts and accessories, communication accessories, R.O. water systems and accessories, machinery and parts, rubber belts and sheets, garment accessories and fabrics, synthetic leather and fabrics for footwear and bags, office furniture and accessories, auto parts and accessories, truck parts and accessories, bicycles and parts, industrial safety products, sporting goods and fitness equipment, personal health care products, office stationery, disposable medical devices and medical equipment, household products, cosmetics, gifts, fashion products, novelties, hair ornaments, imitation jewelry, religious articles, foodstuffs and much more.
